Silver Box Program

Saint Clare School uses the Silver Box Program to shape our behavioral expectations. Silver Boxes are built on this quote from Ephesians, (4:29),

The first liturgy of the school year is the focal point for the program. Each class is presented with a Silver Box all wrapped and shiny to place in their classroom for the year. Every classroom has a Silver Box, from Transitional Kindergarten through eighth grade, to the science lab, the music room, the front office, and of course, extended care. The pastor and parochial vicar are asked to use the quote and the Silver Box reference in the homilies throughout the school year.

All parent communication is designed around the use of Silver Boxes. Students are expected to use Silver Box language whenever possible. The faculty and staff point out Silver Box behavior and say thank you, to model for the students. Each classroom has a bulletin board designed just for the Silver Boxes, and students are encouraged to write a Silver Box to each other and post it. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to give students, and each other a Silver Box. The faculty and staff have chosen vocabulary words designed to allow students a greater understanding of "Silver Boxes" in their daily lives.

The Silver Box recognition itself is the reward. There is no need for, or expectation of, a party for the class with the most boxes on the bulletin board. It is just about the kindness. Silver Box students are recognized every Thursday at our morning assembly.

Silver Box Themes

In addition to teaching and modeling our Catholic faith and values, we emphasize a particular virtue each year. This virtue is taught in greater detail with deeper meaning and expression. The virtues we have emphasized over the past years are shown below:

Come, Live in the Light! (2019-2020)- “You are light in the Lord. Walk as Children of Light.” Ephesians 5:8

Live Out Your Faith: Serve! (2018-19)- “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10

Empathy (2016-17) - "Be happy with those who are happy, weep with those who weep. Have the same concern for everyone." Romans 12:15-16

Mercy (2015-16) - "Jesus told us to be merciful because our Father has been merciful." Luke 6:36

Compassion (2014-15) - "The Lord has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to walk humbly with our God." Micah 6:8

Joy (2013-14) - "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Unity (2012-13) - "Live in a way that is worthy of the people God has chosen to be his own. Always be humble and gentle. Patiently put up with each other and love each other. Try your best to let God\'s Spirit keep your hearts united. Do this by living at peace. All of us are part of the same body." Ephesians 4:1-4

Hope (2011-12) - "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

Peace (2010-11) - "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful." John 14:27

Love (2009-10) - "A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." John 13:34

Gratitude (2008-09) - "Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts." David O. McKay
